33.5 Translation of substantivated present participle

In English the substantivation of verbs looks the same as an participle. Also in German one possibility to substantivate a verb is to use the present participle and put an article before it.

Examples
  Die Lesenden wissen mehr.
= The reading (ones) know more. (The ones that read know more.)
Die Schlafenden wissen nicht, was sie tun.
= The sleeping (ones) do not know what they do. (The ones that sleep do not know what they do.)
